Open Source

What's open, and what isn't.

The AlbertCode agents are proprietary applications, free to install. Around them, everything that helps you adopt, inspect and improve them is public: two repositories with readable installers, full documentation, examples, benchmark evidence, a roadmap and a changelog — open to your contributions.

Licensing

Four kinds of material, four sets of terms.

From each repository's LICENSING.md. None of the open licences covers the agent applications themselves.

  • Code: installer/, scripts/, examples/ and .github/

    Apache License 2.0

  • Documentation: docs/, benchmarks/ and top-level Markdown

    CC BY 4.0

  • Brand: assets/ and the AlbertCode names

All rights reserved — refer to the project accurately

  • The agent applications and everything their installers install

Proprietary, distributed under their own terms

In the repositories

  • Documentation and tutorials
  • The bootstrap installers
  • Example custom commands and agents
  • Benchmark methodology and published results
  • Issues, discussions, roadmap and changelog

Not in the repositories

  • The AlbertCode engine: planning, verification, review
  • Model prompts and orchestration
  • Internal services and APIs
  • Unpublished evaluations

Contributing

Where your help lands.

To change how the agents plan, verify or review work, open a feature request describing the behaviour you want — the engine isn't in these repositories.

Installer
Support for another distribution, a clearer message, a fix
Integrations

Benchmarks
Reproducing a published result, or improving the methodology
Tutorials
A walkthrough of a real task, start to finish
  1. 1

    Small fixes

Typos, broken links, one-line clarifications: open a pull request directly.

  2. 2

    Anything larger

Open an issue or discussion first, so the approach is agreed before you spend time on it.

  3. 3

    Fork and branch

Fork the repository and branch from main. Keep each pull request to one subject.

  4. 4

    Run the checks

The same checks run automatically on every pull request.

  5. 5

    Sign off

Certify the Developer Certificate of Origin by signing off each commit with git commit -s.

python3 scripts/release_gate.py

Every change, in both repositories: scans for secrets and private material.

shellcheck installer/install.sh

Installer changes in albertcode-swe-agent.

sh installer/tests/test_install_sh.sh

Installer changes in mini-albertcode-swe-agent.

Never include API keys, tokens, private code or anyone's personal information. Report security problems privately through the repository's Security tab, not in public issues.

Roadmap

Planned, and shipped — kept apart.

Planned items are from ROADMAP.md, which promises no dates. Shipped items are from the changelogs, which are the record of what exists. Where they disagree, the changelog wins.

Now

Planned
  • First public release: installers for Windows, macOS and Linux, with checksums, on the releases page
  • A recorded demo of a real session, replacing the illustrative one in the README

Next

Planned
  • Signed installers, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper don't warn
  • Package managers: winget on Windows and Homebrew on macOS
  • albertcode --version, and a built-in update check you can switch off
  • Published benchmark results, following the benchmark methodology

Later

Planned
  • More example commands, agents and integration guides, contributed by the community
  • Guides for running AlbertCode in CI
